High School Roundup: Sage Hill’s McCord qualifies first in high jump

CIF Southern Section Division 4 Preliminaries
CARPINTERIA — Sage Hill senior CJ McCord qualified first in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) Saturday at Carpinteria High to move on to next week’s finals.
He qualified fifth in the 400 meters in 50.80 seconds to advance to the meet at Cerritos College.
Sage Hill junior Chance Kuehnel qualified seventh in the 110 hurdles in 15.89 and second in the high jump (6-0).

CIF Southern Section Division 2 Preliminaries
MOORPARK — Newport Harbor High’s Cole Smith qualified sixth in the discus (161-10) Saturday at Moorpark High to move on to next week’s finals.
Smith also finished as the first alternate for the meet at Cerritos College next week in the shotput.
Michael Jarboe qualified eighth in the shotput (51-2 1/2) for the Sailors.

CIF Southern Section Division 2 Preliminaries
MOORPARK — Newport Harbor High’s Paige Fults, Emma Kratzberg, Lauren Loucks and Hope Bender won their heat in the 4x400-meter relay and advanced to next week’s finals with a new school record time of 3 minutes, 56.45 seconds, the third fastest of the day at Moorpark High Saturday.
Bender and Kratzberg both were heat winners in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and both moved on to next week’s meet at Cerritos College.
Bender qualified fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.83) and Kratzberg qualified sixth (15.19).
In the 300 hurdles, Bender qualified second in 44.04 and Kratzberg qualified fourth in 44.61.
Rachelle A La Torre qualified sixth in the shotput (37 feet, 5 1/2 inches) and seventh in the discus (117-7).

Beverly Hills 11, Newport Harbor 7
Sailors senior Reese Stalder remained undefeated in singles, 63-0, after sweeping, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs Saturday at Newport Harbor.
David Lee and Mark Schaefer won two out of three in doubles and Gavin Leonard won two of three in singles for Newport Harbor (18-4).
Stalder, as well as Lee and Schaefer compete in CIF Individuals, starting May 28.
