Women’s Water Polo: Team USA tops Kazakhstan

Newport Harbor High senior Carlee Kapana made 11 saves as the U.S. senior national women’s water polo team beat Kazakhstan, 15-6, at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament on Wednesday night in Auckland, New Zealand.

Newport Harbor and USC alumna Kaleigh Gilchrist scored twice for Team USA, while former Corona del Mar High standout Maddie Musselman scored the game’s first goal. Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach High scored a game-high four goals for Team USA, which earned an 8-3 halftime advantage.

Team USA went a perfect 3-0 in group play and will face Japan in the tournament quarterfinals late Thursday night Pacific Standard Time.
