Boys’ Lacrosse: Sailors secure Sunset League title
In his fifth season in charge, Coach Mark Todd has led the Newport Harbor High boys’ lacrosse team to an outright Sunset League title.
Newport Harbor clinched first with a 19-7 win against Huntington Beach at Davidson Field on Tuesday. The win is the Sailors’ eighth in a row, helping them improve to 7-0 in league.
The Sailors, who are 10-6 overall, claimed the top spot for the first time in eight years. They placed second in each of the past two seasons.
Alex Fuller recorded seven goals and an assist for Newport Harbor, which led, 12-1, at halftime Chandler Pearce and Joe Fuller finished with four and three goals, respectively.
John Mooers and Dane Flinn had two goals apiece.
Liam Whelan had seven takeaways and two ground balls, while Blake Lenk contributed six knockdowns, a takeaway and a groundball.
PJ Steiner won 13 of 18 faceoffs and Max Durante was four of six.
Newport Harbor can close out league undefeated with a win at home against Edison on Friday at 7 p.m.
