In, who leads the Anteaters with a 76.0 scoring average over 22 rounds, has two top-10 finishes, including leading UCI with a seventh place performance at the Big West Championships.

OCC divers shine

Orange Coast College sophomore Rae Adams won the one- and three-meter events at both the Orange Empire Conference and Southern California women’s diving championships recently.

Adams, who was third in the three-meter event at the state championships as a freshmen, will compete at the state meet May Thursday through Saturday at East Los Angeles College.

OCC’s Candice Buck was second in the three-meter event at the OEC and SoCal meets and was third in the one-meter event at the SoCal meet to advance to the state meet.

Shady Canyon to host Jones Cup

Shady Canyon Golf Club will host the 15th annual Jones Cup on June 25 at noon.

Shady Canyon, from Irvine, is playing host to the event for the first time. The event features the five local country clubs, Big Canyon, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana, competing in an 18-hole, two-best-ball format.

Big Canyon won last year’s event for the third straight time and ninth time overall.

Morales singled out

UC Irvine senior pitcher Andrew Morales is among 50 baseball players named to the midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list.

Morales, who is also a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, is one of five Big West representatives on the “rolling” list that ensures that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the honor.

The midseason watch list will be trimmed to 30 members by USA Baseball officials on May 8 with the semifinalists announced May 27. The list of athletes will then be sent to a voting body consisting of Golden Spikes Award winners, past USA Baseball national team coaches and press officers, members of media that closely follow the amateur game, select professional baseball personnel, and current USA Baseball staff, representing a group of more than 200 voters in total.

Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2014. Tuesday, May 27, marks the day when amateur baseball fans from across the country will be able to vote for their favorite semifinalist on GoldenSpikesAward.com. As part of this selection process all voters will be asked to choose three players from the list of names.
