College Roundup: UCI men’s tennis wins Big West semifinal
MEN’S TENNIS
UC Irvine 4, Cal Poly SLO 1
INDIAN WELLS — Sebastian Heim and Jonathan Hammel won in singles and doubles to help the No. 1-seeded Anteaters avenge their lone regular-season conference loss in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Heim won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, then teamed with Tyler Pham to win their doubles set.
Hammel won at No. 5 singles and paired with Caryl Hernandez to claim their doubles win.
Shuhei Shibahara added a win at No, 4 singles in one of the four singles matches that were played to conclusion.
UCI (20-12) will face UC Santa Barbara in the title match on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Cal Poly is 15-10.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
UC Irvine 4, Cal State Fullerton 0
INDIAN WELLS — Andrea Duva won in singles and doubles to pace the No. 2-seeded Anteaters in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Duva won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and paired with Arisha Ladhani to a No. 3 doubles triumph.
Kat and Ali Facey posted a win for UCI at No. 1 doubles, while Sarah Gong (No. 2) and Mazy Watrous (No. 5) added singles wins for the ‘Eaters (15-8).
UCI will face No. 3-seeded UC Santa Barbara in a semifinal match on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Cal State Fullerton is 10-12.

BASEBALL
The Master’s 3, Vanguard 2
Jose Rojas was three for four with a home run to pace the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game on Friday.
Paul Keating was two for four and scored a run for the Lions (33-17, 26-14 in conference), whose only error produced an unearned run.
No. 8-ranked The Master’s (39-9, 32-8) had six hits, four fewer than Vanguard. With the win, TMC clinched at least a share of the GSAC title.
The two teams are scheduled to complete the regular season with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
