SANTA BARBARA — Reigning National Player of the Week Zack La Cavera continued his offensive dominance, recording a match-high 22 kills to lead the No. 4-ranked Anteaters to a 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 15-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win in Robertson Gym Wednesday.
Middle blocker Jason Agopian added 10 kills, two aces and five total blocks, middle blocker Andrew Benz and outside hitter Tamir Hershko had nine kills each, while outside hitter Travis Woloson totaled seven kills and five block assists. Libero Michael Brinkley had a match-best 19 digs and setter Roberto Frazzoni totaled 37 set assists for UCI (23-4, 17-3 in the MPSF), which won its fifth straight match.
No. 9 UCSB is 14-9, 10-9.
UCI plays at No. 12 UCLA Friday at 8 p.m.

BASEBALL
UC Irvine 7, San Diego State 4
SAN DIEGO — Sophomore designated hitter Andrew Martinez hit his eighth home run of the season, a three-run blast in a four-run first inning to help the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Tuesday night.
It was the 13th straight win for UCI (19-10), which avenged a previous loss to the Aztecs (24-10).
Freshman Keston Hiura, who extended his hitting streak to 16 games, and junior Wyatt Castro had two hits apiece, while senior catcher Jerry McClanahan had two runs batted in for UCI.
Freshman Alonzo Garcia pitched three innings of one-run, one-hit relief to earn the win and improve to 3-0.
The ‘Eaters play host to Long Beach State in the first a three-game Big West Conference series on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL
Doubleheader
Host Vanguard University swept two nonconference games from Antelope Valley on Wednesday, winning the opener, 7-1, and posting a 4-0 win in Game 2.
Brittney Boggs was two for four with three runs batted in in the opener, then went three for three with two RBIs in the second game. Boggs has a team-best 47 RBIs this season.
Taylor Hallahan was two for four in the opener, in which Rachel Stalford allowed two hits and no runs in five innings to improve to 11-3.
In Game 2, Taylor Wilson was two for three and Hallahan scored twice to back Shelby Ross, who allowed four hits and no runs in five innings to improve to 5-1.
No. 13-ranked Vanguard is 35-11.
Antelope Valley is 12-24.
