Girls’ Soccer: Barrios, OCL MVP
Estancia High senior girls’ soccer midfielder Alba Barrios has earned Orange Coast League MVP honors for the recently completed season.
Barrios is joined on the first-team all-league by teammates Caitlin Leahy, Samantha Falasco, Alondra Guzman and Sarah Leahy. Costa Mesa’s Regina Ranieri was also a first-team all-league selection.
Barrios, a repeat first-team all-league honoree, was an emotional leader and team captain for Estancia. She scored two goals and dished out seven assists as the Eagles went 19-4-3 and 7-1-2 in league, sharing the league title with Calvary Chapel. Barrios is bound for Cal State Fullerton.
Guzman, a senior forward, led Estancia with 10 goals and eight assists.
Falasco, a senior defender, was also a threat on offense. A Maryland commit and repeat first-team honoree, she had nine goals and three assists for the Eagles.
Sarah Leahy, a senior midfielder, had eight goals and three assists for Estancia. Her twin sister Caitlin, a four-year varsity goalie, helped the Eagles record 18 shutouts. Overall, Estancia outscored the competition, 51-14.
The Eagles advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs before falling at Ontario Colony, 3-2, in overtime.
Ranieri was a leader as a sophomore defender for Costa Mesa, which finished 6-14-2 and 1-8-1 in league, tied for fifth with Saddleback.
Estancia junior defender Brandi White, junior forward Emily Rodriguez and sophomore midfielder Delani Guyot all earned second-team all-league honors, as did Micaela Penazzi and Veronica Zambrano of Costa Mesa.
