CdM’s Napolitano commits to University of San Diego

Corona del Mar High senior quarterback Luke Napolitano has committed to play football at the University of San Diego, said his father, Augie.

Napolitano keyed the Sea Kings’ historic season in 2013 in which they won a third straight CIF Southern Section Southern Division title, as well as the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III Bowl Game and CIF State Division III Bowl Game for the first time, and became the first high school football team in California to complete a 16-0 season.

“He is excited about continuing to play football at a school with a winning football program that offers him the ability to earn the right to play immediately and help USD in [its] quest for the Pioneer [Football League] and [Football Championship Subdivision] championship,” said Augie, adding that the school’s proximity to home, family and friends, and its education and ties to the Southern California business community factored into his son’s decision.

Napolitano enjoyed a record-breaking year in his first season as CdM’s starting quarterback. He set single-season school records for passing yards (2,645) and completions (197), while throwing for 25 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions, and completing 62.3% of his passes.

Napolitano’s career numbers for passing yards (2,703) and completions (203) rank No. 1 at CdM. He also rushed for 272 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Napolitano, who is 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, earned CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools First Team, All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division, first-team All-Pacific Coast League, and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Co-Offensive Player of the Year accolades.
