Junior left-hander Elliot Surrey threw a complete-game shutout, surrendering six hits and striking out seven to lead the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference opener Friday.
Cameron Bishop doubled in a run in the first inning for all Surrey would need. Surrey improved to 3-2.
Bishop went two for three and fellow freshman Keston Hiura was two for four for the winners (12-10).
Hawaii is 9-17.

PHOENIX — Jose Rojas went four for five with a home run and four runs batted in to pace the visiting Lions’ 17-hit attack in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.
Taylor McKnight had three hits, while Brandon Sandoval, Brett Collins and Brock Eissman had two apiece for the Lions (24-12, 18-10 in conference).
Sean Isaac allowed one earned run and five hits in six innings to earn the win and improve to 6-2. He struck out seven.
ACU is 8-22, 8-20.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

PROVO, Utah —Senior opposite Zack La Cavera had a match-high 19 kills to help the visiting No. 5-ranked Anteaters snap the No. 6-ranked Cougars’ 36-match home winning streak with a 20-25, 25-19, 29-27, 25-23 triumph in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest Friday.
Outside hitter Tamir Hershko added 15 kills and middle blocker Jason Agopian had 11 for UCI (19-4, 13-3 in conference).
Travis Woloson chipped in 10 kills and seven digs and middle blocker Andrew Benz hit .500 with seven kills and four total blocks.
Libero Michael Brinkley had a season-high 19 digs and setter Roberto Frazzoni had 41 assists and seven digs.
BYU is 13-8, 10-7.
The two teams play again Saturday at 7 p.m.

Adrian Faitalia paced the host Pirates with 11 kills in their 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 Pacific Coast Conference victory on Friday.

Doubleheader
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Host Orange Coast College defeated Long Beach, 5-0, and fell, 4-1, to MiraCosta on Friday.
Danielle Boyette and Sierra Brown posted a dominant 21-5, 21-8 win to lead the rout of Long Beach.
Against MiraCosta, Lehua Alama-Jordan and Danyelle Brown posted the lone set victory. OCC is 6-1.

The host Lions captured five of six singles matches in the nonconference match Friday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Stefan Kilchhofer and Fabio Silva won 12 of 16 games at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Michael Rjazanov rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles.
No. 4-ranked Vanguard is 18-0.
