Elliot Surrey pitched seven shutout innings in the nonconference series opener Friday night at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.

The win was Surrey’s second of the season after the southpaw snapped a two-game losing streak for the ‘Eaters in series openers. The southpaw dealt 7 2/3 innings and struck out seven while scattering six hits and surrendering a run in the eighth.

Vanguard 10, William Jessup 2

Brock Eissman went three for three with two runs batted in and two runs to pace the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.

Brett Collins (one RBI), Paul Keating and Justin Vega all had two hits for the Lions, for whom Jose Rojas and Michael Flores had two RBIs apiece.

Sean Isaac allowed four hits and two runs in six innings and struck out seven to improve to 5-2.

Vanguard is 21-12, 15-10 in conference.

William Jessup is 5-20, 2-18.

The two teams complete their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
