High School Roundup: Newport Harbor’s Bender breaks school record in 100 hurdles

IRVINE — Newport Harbor High senior Hope Bender won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 15.03 seconds Saturday at Irvine High.
It was Bender’s second time running the event. She finished second in the 200 in 25.75 and third in the 400 in 58.36, a personal record.
Junior Paige Fults was fifth in the 400 in a personal-best 59.81
Junior Rachelle A La Torre won the shot put with a mark of 39 feet, 1/2 inch and finished second in the discus (119-0).

Corona del Mar 20, San Clemenet 3
Senior Max Kline (two assists, one groundball) and Junior Jordan Greenhall (one assist, one groundball) scored four goals each for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Saturday.
Senior Noah Howe and junior Stephen Von Der Ahe added three goals each and senior Sherwin Gersten (two assists) and junior Nate Neuman scored two goals each.
Senior Hugh Crance made six saves for CdM.

Felicia Rios hit a home run for the Eagles in the Costa Mesa tournament game Saturday.
Maya Van Den Heever went two for three with a home run and a walk for Estancia (4-2).

BOYS’ TENNIS
Prep Classic
Los Angeles Windward Academy finished undefeated in the two-day, four-team event, defeating host Sage Hill 5-4, Crean Lutheran 6-3, and Oaks Christian 7-2.
Oaks Christian was runner-up with two 5-4 wins over Sage Hill and Crean Lutheran for a 2-1 record in the team event. Sage lost 4-5 to both Oaks Christian and Windward Academy while defeating Crean Lutheran 6-3. The tournament features five singles and four doubles, best of nine sets, in each round with players allowed to play singles and doubles.
Kenan Torlic, and Ian Huang of Sage Hill were named to the all-tournament team.
