Football: CdM’s Chase bound for UCLA
Corona del Mar High senior defensive end Parker Chase is heading to the UCLA football program as a preferred walk-on player, said Dan O’Shea, one of CdM’s interim coaches, in a text message on Thursday.
“Incredibly thrilled for him,” O’Shea said of Chase, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder. “[He’s] an incredible player and young man.”
Chase, who finished with a CdM single-season record 22 sacks last season, is the Sea Kings’ all-time leader in sacks (38.5) and tackles (213). Twice he recorded five sacks in a game, tying the school’s single-game record.
Chase, who had 103 tackles, four batted passes and a fumble recovery, earned a plethora of accolades in his final season in which CdM (10-2) claimed its third consecutive undefeated Pacific Coast League title and reached the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Southwest Division playoffs. Chase made the CalHiSports.com All-State Large Schools Special Mention list, along with taking home the Pacific Coast League MVP and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Defensive Player of the Year awards. He received All-CIF Southern Section Southwest Division and All-Orange County first-team laurels.
