Newport Harbor girls’ soccer sophomore forward Sianna Siemonsma has verbally committed to the University of Washington, she said Wednesday.

Siemonsma, a physical and feisty forward who also plays for club for Newport Beach-based Slammers FC, led Newport Harbor (6-17-1, 3-6-1 in league) in goals this season. The Sailors finished fifth in the Sunset League but were competitive, including a tie against Edison. Siemonsma also scored a goal as Newport Harbor beat rival Corona del Mar, 1-0, to win the Battle of the Bay for the second straight year.

Siemonsma said she was unsure if she wanted to attend a large or small school. But she fell in love with the Washington campus while taking an unofficial visit last month.

Siemonsma said she had “tears of joy, and tears of relief” after making her decision.

“I’m stress-free,” she said.
