Community College Baseball: Bell goes five for five for OCC
BASEBALL
Orange Coast 7, Saddleback 3
Tommy Bell, who came into Thursday’s game mired in a 1-for-14 slump, broke out in a big way, going 5-for-5 with three doubles, two runs and two RBI for OCC in the Orange Empire Conference game Thursday.
Bell becomes the first player in OCC baseball history to record five-hit games in two different seasons. He notched his previous five-hit performance against College of the Canyons on Feb. 12, 2014. No other Pirate has ever had two five-hit games in their career.
Jack Kruger added three hits, including a double and two RBI, helping the Pirates (13-9, 4-3 in OEC).
Sophomore lefty Art Vidrio (4-1) continued his steady work, allowing just one earned run over 6 2/3 innings on six hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Relievers Jack Pabich and James McLellan combined to allow just two hits and five strikeouts over the final 2 1/3 innings.
