NHHS, Ensign cheer earn great success in SHARP event
The Newport Harbor High School pep squad and the Ensign cheer team earned great success in the SHARP International Competition at Estancia on Sunday.
The teams placed first in the Varsity Advanced Cheer Division, the Junior Varsity Cheer Division, Junior High School Cheer and Stunt Division, Song and Pom Division, and the Majorette Division.
The teams were also awarded the Most Spirited and the overall Grand Champions Award for the day.
In the individual events, Cassidy Winter won and Kendall Burnand placed second in tumbling, Priscilla Ocampo took first place and Cassidy Peterson and Alexis White took third place in the toe touches, Isabella Caposio placed third for best turns, and Natasha Karlin took second in the leap competition.
The Pep Squad invites the schools to attend NHHS Spirit Night on March 27 at 6 p.m. in the main gym, to watch the teams’ championship routines, as well as special performances from Ensign Cheer, Newport Heights, Whittier, Kaiser, and Newport Elementary students.
