Briefs: Lions’ Holsinger POY
Vanguard University junior guard Riley Holsinger has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in women’s basketball.
Holsinger is joined on the team by Vanguard junior Samantha Doucette, a repeat selection.
Vanguard’s Russ Davis is Tri-Coach of the Year after guiding the No. 7-ranked Lions to a 12-4 conference regular-season record, good for second place.
Vanguard finished the regular season 20-6.
Holsinger a community college transfer from Washington in her first season with the Lions, averaged 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, three assists and 2.3 steals in the regular season. She had eight double-doubles heading into the GSAC Tournament quarterfinals against San Diego Christian on Wednesday.
Doucette averaged 16.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists in the regular season.
Davis shared his honor with Kirsten Moore of Westmont and Trisha Stafford-Odom, who guided Concordia to the GSAC regular-season title.

VU’s Gorman lauded
Vanguard University senior guard Chris Gorman is a repeat honoree on the All-Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball team.
Gorman averaged a team-best 15.9 points and 3.9 assists and added 2.2 steals per game. He also led the team with 58 three-pointers in the regular season.
Gorman helped Vanguard finish the regular season 16-14, 10-6 in conference, good for fifth place.
The Lions are the No. 5 seed in the eight-team GSAC Tournament and will visit No. 4-seeded Arizona Christian on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Hope International senior Kenny Morgan was named Player of the Year and HIU’s Bill Czech, who guided the Royals to the regular-season conference crown, is Coach of the Year.
