College Roundup: OCC men’s volleyball sweeps Golden West

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. Golden West

The host Pirates prevailed, 27-25, 25-15, 25-20, behind 12 kills from sophomore middle blocker Nick Amado in the Pacific Coast Conference match Friday.

Adrian Faitalia added 10 kills, while Kamaha’o Paio had nine kills and a team-best six digs for OCC (5-3, 2-0 in conference).

Steven Duhoux had 32 assists for the winners.

Golden West is 2-6, 0 -1.

BASEBALL

Concordia 3, Vanguard 1

The visiting Eagles broke a 1-1 tie with single runs in the eighth and ninth in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.

Brandon Sandoval and Paul Keating were both two for four for the Lions (16-7, 11-5 in conference), for whom Justin Vega was one for three with a run batted in.

Concordia improved to 19-3, 14-2.

The two teams are scheduled to complete their series with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

SAN MARCOS – Visiting Vanguard earned a 7-3 win in the second game after falling, 4-2, in 10 innings in the opener against No. 12-ranked Cal State San Marcos in nonconference play on Friday.

Brittney Boggs hit a three-run home run to key the Lions in Game 2, which was called after five innings due to darkness.

Taylor Wilson and Summer Penner also had runs batted in for Vanguard (14-2).

In the opener, Boggs was two for four with two RBIs for the Lions, for whom Rachel Stalford allowed three earned runs in 9 1/3 innings to absorb her first loss in seven decisions.

Stalford struck out nine.

Cal State San Marcos is 17-4.
