HUNTINGTON BEACH — Ty Hutchins notched 29 kills to help lead the undefeated Pirates to a 25-27, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 16-14 win in their Pacific Coast Conference opener Wednesday.
Jimmy Webb finished with 15 kills and Brendan Huff amassed 53 assists and nine digs for OCC (8-0, 1-0 in conference).

Orange Empire Conference meet
CYPRESS — Orange Coast College’s Marc Reyes shot two-under-par 70 to share medalist honors with Riverside’s Wes Hatton and led the Pirates to a second-place finish at Navy Golf Course Wednesday.
Riverside won at 365 and OCC finished three strokes behind. Santiago Canyon (375), Cypress (386), Saddleback (391) and Irvine Valley (393) followed.
Michael Chen (73), Zach Eddy (74), Zach Olson (75) and Cody Kelly (76) also scored for OCC.

MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 6, UC Irvine 1
MALIBU — Rafael Davidian won, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 4 singles to provide the only point for the visitors in the nonconference match Wednesday.
Justin Agbayani and Caryl Hernandez posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, but Pepperdine claimed the doubles point.
UCI fell to 2-9, while the Waves are now 7-5.

RIVERSIDE — Mariah Dominguez had the lone hit for the Pirates in the five-inning Orange Empire Conference game halted because of the 10-run mercy rule.
OCC fell to 3-5, 1-3 in conference.
RCC is now 8-4, 4-1.
