Women’s Basketball: UCI’s Fajemisin named Big West Player of the Week

UC Irvine sophomore Mokun Fajemisin has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball.

The 6-foot forward posted her seventh double-double of the year with a career-high 21 points and game-high 13 rebounds in a 76-72 home triumph over UC Riverside on Saturday. She knocked down a pair of free throws with four seconds left to cement the overtime victory. She had pulled down an important defensive rebound before getting fouled and going to the line for the decisive free throws.

She made nine of 10 foul shots as UCI rallied from a 15-point deficit. She also had two steals and one assist.

Fajemisin leads the Anteaters (5-20, 2-8 in conference) in scoring (12.6 per game), rebounding (8.0) and blocked shots (1.8) and is second on the team with 23 steals.
