High School Roundup: Newport Harbor girls’ water polo clinches league title

Newport Harbor 14, Huntington Beach 5

Senior center Chanel Schilling scored six goals as the Sailors clinched the outright Sunset League title Wednesday night at Newport Harbor High.

Kate Pipkin had three goals and four steals for Newport Harbor (19-6, 6-0 in league). Katie Kearns scored twice and Emma Erickson, Ellie Reid and Kate Yasko also scored.

Carlee Kapana had seven saves, one assist and three steals for the Sailors. Maddy Kanzler added two saves and one steal.

Newport Harbor plays at Santa Margarita in a nonleague game Thursday at 3 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 42, Godinez 27

The Eagles finished off an undefeated Orange Coast League campaign Wednesday at Estancia High.

Freshman Finley Garnett scored 14 for Estancia (18-8, 10-0 in league), while Eliza Jason, Maya Van Den Heever and Slade Garnett added nine points each.

Estancia, ranked No. 10 in CIF Southern Section Division 4AA, awaits the release of the CIF playoff brackets on Sunday.

Fountain Valley 52, Newport Harbor 45

McKenna Izzi scored 16 points for the Sailors in their Sunset League finale Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Hannah Doolin added 13 points for Newport Harbor (8-16, 1-9 in league).
