Doubleheader

PALM DESERT — Visiting Orange Coast won the second game, 10-3, to earn a nonconference split at the College of the Desert on Saturday.

In the Game 1 win, OCC’s Robert Longtree, Jeff Nellis and James McClellan had two hits apiece, while Cole Rutherford had two runs batted in.

COD posted a 5-4 win in the second game, in which Longtree was two for three with two RBIs.

OCC’s record went to 2-2.

COD is 1-2.

Doubleheader

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Brock Eissman hit a grand slam to key a five-run fifth inning that broke a 5-5 tie as visiting Vanguard earned a 12-5 win over William Jessup to earn a Golden State Athletic Conference split on Saturday.

Paul Keating was three for four with three runs batted in and Michael Flores homered and drove in two in the second game to help the Lions improve to 7-2, 4-2 in conference.

In the first game, William Jessup scored four in the seventh to erase a 7-5 deficit and go on to a 9-7 win.

Taylor McKnight was three for five and Keating was two for five with two RBIs for the Lions, who committed three errors which led to three unearned runs.

Jose Rojas hit a solo homer for Vanguard in Game 1.

William Jessup finished the day 2-4, all in conference play.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 70, Vanguard 65

Freshman Malachi Hoosein had 20 points off the bench for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Hoosein made seven of 10 field-goal attempts, including five of seven from three-point range for the Lions (13-10, 5-5 in conference).

Senior Keith Mason had 17 points and seven rebounds for Vanguard.

TMC improved to 7-13, 2-8.
