High School Roundup: Estancia leaves Laguna behind

Estancia 51, Laguna Beach 37
Senior guard Celia Duran scored 14 points for the Eagles in Thursday night’s battle for first place in the Orange Coast League at home.
Senior guard Stephanie Garcia added a season-high 10 points for Estancia (17-3, 5-1 in league), including a four-point play. Sophomore Maya Van Den Heever scored eight points.
“Defensively, we played well,” Estancia Co-Coach Xavier Castellano said. “The girls were ready to play ... we’ve kind of woken up the last couple of games.”
Laguna Beach is now 4-2 in league, tied for second with Costa Mesa.
Estancia, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 3A, plays host to rival Costa Mesa on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs won the first meeting, 67-64.

IRVINE — Senior guard Keaton Gaughan finished with 14 points and two three-pointers during the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League game on the road.
Krista Anderson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for CdM (16-6, 4-2 in league), ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA poll.
CdM’s Kelly Tam added six points.
The Sea Kings play host to Woodbridge on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

IRVINE — Maddie Musselman and Eliza Britt each scored three goals for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Pacific Coast League game on the road.
Kampbell Gritsch and Grace Morgan each had two assists for CdM (14-3, 6-0 in league). Sami Pratt had two steals, Marina Coskinas drew five ejections and Heidi Ritner made eight saves.
The Sea Kings, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, play host to Woodbridge on Tuesday.

Senior captain Rosalie Deliz scored the second-half equalizer on a free kick in Thursday’s Sunset League game at Newport Harbor High.

IRVINE — Senior goalkeeper Kendall Mulvaney made four saves for the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League match on Thursday.
CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said an own goal in the 60th minute proved to be the difference.
The Sea Kings (7-5-4, 3-2-1 in league) play host to Woodbridge on Tuesday at Jim Scott Stadium at 7 p.m.

IRVINE — Senior guard Blake Flamson posted a career-high 24 points and five three-pointers on the road Thursday, helping the Sea Kings remain in first place in the Pacific Coast League.
CdM (16-5, 5-1 in league) has a showdown at home against Woodbridge on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bo St. Geme finished with 15 points for the Sea Kings, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA poll.
CdM’s Kevin Fults and Jeff Johnston had 10 points apiece.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Evan Perez, a 152-pound senior, highlights one of seven Sailors winning matches on Thursday, resulting in Newport Harbor picking up its first Sunset League dual meet win of the season.
Dominic Kosecki (113 pounds), Dominic Komadina (126), Andrew Craft (145), James Pilz (160), Brett Beaudette (182) and Roberto Rivera (195) each won for the Sailors (1-3 in league).
