Newport Lightning Basketball Club teams win big In January

The Newport Lightning Basketball Club’s 12U Black and 13U Black boys’ teams both won championships in the big SNU Showtime New Year’s Invitational Tournament Jan. 10-11 at The MAP Facility in Garden Grove.

The 12U Black team went undefeated beating Dominators, SoCal Pride, SNU Showtime Gold and Dominators again in the championship game, winning by 18.

The team was led by the stellar play of big men Adam Garza, Austin Clark and Hunter Schimmelpfennig, while guards Luke Barnes, Tommy Griffin, Asher Hamilton, Levi Darrow and Tyler Li played extremely well all weekend leading the team to the championship.

The team is coached by Jeff Hamilton.

The 13U Black team also went undefeated beating OC Stars, SGV Blue and LB Bruins before beating OC Stars in the championship game by 19.

The team was led by the stellar play of John Humphreys, Danny Hatch, Cade Overfelt and Ethan Garbers, while Charlie Levis manned the paint and led the team in rebounds. Shane Premer, Justin Lin and Kai Johnson were tough defensively all weekend helping the team hold opponents to less than 30 points per game.
