High School Roundup: Estancia’s McReynolds hits game-winning three-pointer at buzzer

Estancia 40, Saddleback 38

Senior Kaena McReynolds nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Eagles to the Orange Coast League win at Estancia Wednesday.

McReynolds finished with 14 points. Senior Chad Barris added 11 points for Estancia (8-12, 2-3 in league), which plays at Calvary Chapel on Friday.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 21, Marina 2

Carlee Kapana (six saves) and Maddy Kanzler (five saves) shared time in goal for the Sailors in Wednesday’s Sunset League game at Newport Harbor High.

Senior captain Kate Pipkin had four goals and a steal for Newport Harbor (13-4, 3-0 in league), while junior Katie Kearns also had four goals along with two assists and two steals.

Chanel Schilling and Isabel Leveque each scored three goals for the Sailors, Kate Yasko scored twice and Kara Carlson, Rachel Whitelegge, Ellie Reid, Sammie Garcia and Kapana added one goal each.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, plays host to No. 5 Orange Lutheran in a key nonleague game Saturday at 10 a.m.

Laguna Beach 25, Estancia 2

The Eagles trailed throughout against the Breakers, the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 1, in an Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Estancia.

Laguna took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter when Natalie Smith scored from long range for Estancia. The Eagles’ second goal was scored by Jenna Rutledge on a deflected shot that went off the Laguna goalie in the fourth quarter.

Estancia fell to 0-2 in league and 4-12 overall.

Laguna (3-0 in league) clinched a share of the OCL title with the win which put the Breakers at 18-0 overall and ran their win streak to 39 games.

Newport Harbor 3, Fountain Valley 0

Alex Avila scored two goals and Alan Alcantara had three assists for the Sailors in the Sunset League home game Wednesday.

Jose Garfias scored one goal, Victor Negrete made three saves and Devon Patterson had one save for Newport Harbor (7-9-3, 1-5-0 in league).

Estancia 1, Saddleback 1

Brandon Mendez scored for the Eagles in the 60th minute of the Orange Coast League match at Jim Scott Stadium Wednesday.

Ricky Gutierrez recorded the assist. Saddleback scored the equalizer in the 65th minute.

Estancia goalie Jaime Pedraza made six saves.

The Eagles are 11-3-3, 2-1-2 in league.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Chase Munger and Juan Rodriguez scored for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Sage Hill improved to 7-2-0, 7-0-0 in league.
