High School Roundup: Six win district titles for Newport Harbor wrestling

WRESTLING

District Championships

Newport Harbor High seniors Brett Beaudette (182-pound weight class) and John Kinnear (160) were among six individual champions for the Newport-Mesa competition Tuesday at Corona del Mar High.

Estancia won the event with Newport Harbor in second.

Sophomores Ryan Sanson (113), Ethan Zimmerman (138) and Dobbs (195) along with junior Harrison Reich (145) also won for the Sailors.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 59, Crean Lutheran 55

IRVINE — Krishan Tarsadia scored 19 points, hitting three three pointers and draining four of four attempts from the free-throw line for the Lightning in the Academy League upset Tuesday.

CJ McCord added 17 points, including five three-pointers for Sage Hill (12-5, 3-2 in league).

Crean is 15-2, 5-1 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 1, Beckman 1

The Sea Kings overcame a 1-0 deficit and scored with five minutes left in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Blake Munger scored with an assist from Alex Rihm.

Hagen Truninger made six saves for CdM (4-4-3, 2-1-1 in league).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 2, Crean Lutheran 0

Paige Burke (13th minute) and Lauren Thunen (45th) scored for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Claire Novotny had an assist.

Sage Hill outshot Crean, 11-4. Goalie Kekai Whitford had four saves for Sage Hill.

Thunen, sophomore Maya Roston and junior Janis Jin stood out for the Lightning (8-4-2, 5-0-0 in league), which plays host to Oxford Academy on Friday.

Corona del Mar 0, Beckman 0

TUSTIN — Skyler Gullick had five saves for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League match at Tustin High.

CdM (9-5-1, 3-0-1 in league) plays at Northwood on Thursday in a first-place showdown. Both teams are 3-0-1 in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 49, Laguna Beach 25

Finley Garnett scored 16 points to lead the Eagles in the Orange Coast League home game Tuesday.

Estancia improved to 10-7, 3-0 in league.

Crean Lutheran 54, Sage Hill 23

IRVINE — Kate Knollenberg, Bailey Super, Kenna Knollenberg scored four points each for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Sage Hill dropped to 9-10, 2-3 in league.

Beckman 47, Corona del Mar 37

IRVINE — Natalia Bruening had nine points for CdM in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League road game.

Maria King and Brianna Westrup each scored eight for CdM (12-7, 2-2 in league), which plays at Northwood on Friday.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 13, Beckman 2

IRVINE — Maddie Musselman had six goals and four steals for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League road game.

Grace Morgan and Chloe Harbilas each scored three for CdM (10-5, 5-0 in league). Jaleh Moaddeli had a goal and three steals. Heidi Ritner made five saves, and Erin Tharp had three.

CdM plays at Northwood on Thursday.
