MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Hawaii

HONOLULU — Sophomore outside hitter Tamir Hershko had a match-high 17 kills to lead the Anteaters to a 27-25, 25-21, 25-19 sweep in the last match of the Outrigger Resorts Invitational on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

No. 8-ranked UCI (3-1) swept its three matches to claim the tournament title and Hershko was named tournament MVP. He hit .696 against the No. 10-ranked Rainbow Warriors (3-1).

Senior opposite Zack La Cavera (11 kills) and junior setter Michael Saeta (41 assists) also made the all-tournament team for the Anteaters, who hit a season-best .526.

UCI also had a season-best nine aces, including five by Saeta.

Junior outside hitter Kyle Russell chipped in 11 kills for the winners, who play host to George Mason on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Hope International 66, Vanguard 59

FULLERTON — Senior Chris Gorman had 23 points to lead the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference contest Tuesday.

The No. 2-ranked Royals improved to 16-0, 4-0 in conference, while Vanguard, the defending NAIA and GSAC champion, is now 11-8, 3-3.

Keith Mason had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lions, who shot just 27.3% from the field (16 for 69).
