BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 70, Vincent Memorial 56

VISTA — Senior point guard Mark Loper scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half for the Lightning in a first-round game of the Tri-City Christian Tournament Tuesday.

Sage Hill’s T.J. Danner had 10 points and nine rebounds against the school from Calexico.

The Lightning (10-1) will play at 11 a.m. in the first of two games today.

Long Beach Poly 55, Corona del Mar 39

SAN DIEGO — Marcus Bradley scored 14 points for the Sea Kings in a quarterfinal game of the Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines High Tuesday.

Chris Freeman added 12 points and Danny Cheek scored eight points for CdM (8-4).

The Sea Kings opened with two wins in the tournament Monday, beating Compton and Coolidge from Washington.

Cheek was fouled while shooting a three-pointer with less than second left against Coolidge. He made two of three free throws to give CdM a 51-50 win.

The Sea Kings will face either Westchester or Lincoln today in a fifth-place semifinal.

Rubidoux 53, Costa Mesa 47

TEMECULA — Andrew Albers had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs in a second-round game of the Linfield Christian Tournament Tuesday.

Trace Curet scored six points for Costa Mesa (4-8), which will play today at 5 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.

San Luis Obispo 58, Estancia 26

COSTA MESA — Ray Holmes scored nine points for the Eagles in a consolation game of the Estancia Coast Classic Tuesday.

Davon Joyner had five points for the Eagles (5-8), who will face Whitney today at 10:30 a.m. in a consolation game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 43, Loara 25

COSTA MESA — Junior Kasey Thompson scored 23 points to lead the Sailors in the consolation quarterfinal of the Costa Mesa Winter Classic Tuesday at Costa Mesa High.

Sophomore Lexi Kunkle had seven points and junior Taylor Bower added six for the Sailors (7-5).

Newport Harbor will face Fountain Valley in the consolation semifinals today at 1:30 p.m.

Sage Hill 42, Avalon 21

AVALON — Junior Ava Soleimany had 16 points and junior Zoe Kreitenberg added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lightning in the pool-play opener of the Avalon Classic on Tuesday.

Sage Hill (5-2) plays Godinez today at 10 a.m.

Pacifica 65, Corona del Mar 63

GARDEN GROVE — Kayla Marolt had 25 points and seven steals for the Sea Kings in a second-round game of the Garden Grove Tournament Tuesday.

Saylor Schroff had 15 points and Ellie Nadal had six points and 10 assists for CdM (8-5).

The Sea Kings had a chance to tie with 10 seconds left, but Pacifica recorded a steal to seal the win.

CdM plays today at 1:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.

Rosary 63, Estancia 30

GARDEN GROVE — Kassie Stratton scored 13 points for the Eagles in the second round of the Garden Grove Tournament Tuesday.

Yessenia Maldonado and Celia Duran had six points each for Estancia (8-5).

The Eagles will play in a consolation game today at Garden Grove High.

Excalibur Tournament

Newport Harbor responded with a victory over Walnut after a 2-0 loss to Santa Margarita Tuesday.

The Sailors scored a win on penalty kicks against Walnut after a 2-2 tie. Beth Barnard connected on the winning penalty kick for Newport Harbor after all five Sailors converted their chances, outscoring Walnut, 5-3, on PKs.

Sophomore Jenna Castillo scored in the first half and senior Natalie Swift finished on a breakaway to tie the game, 2-2, for the Sailors.

Newport Harbor had an even number of shots to Santa Margarita, but gave up a goal in each half.

The Sailors will play against Sunset League rival Edison today at 9:30 a.m. at San Clemente.
