High School Roundup: Sailors split at Marina tourney

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Alan Alcantara had a big day, logging three goals in two games for the Sailors, who won one and lost another in tournament play Friday.

Newport Harbor opened with a 2-1 loss to Redondo Beach Friday morning in a quarterfinal game with Alcantara scoring his team’s only goal unassisted.

The Sailors (7-4-2) rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Colton, behind a two-goal performance from Alcantara and a Manolo Laguna score. True Tamplin and Jonny Arroyo both logged assists in the game.

The Sailors will look to lock up fifth place in their tournament finale with Los Alamitos at Marina High Saturday at 11 a.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 54, California 34

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Maria King finished with 14 points for the Sea Kings at the Costa Mesa tournament on Friday.

Natalia Bruening recorded seven points, seven rebounds, seven blocks and five steals for CdM (6-8).

Katie Scott had eight points and a three-pointer.

In the Sea Kings’ 51-43 loss to Irvine in the tournament on Thursday, Krista Anderson led CdM with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Lincoln 72, Estancia 63

GARDEN GROVE — Celia Duran scored 21 points for the Eagles in a consolation semifinal game of the Garden Grove tournament Friday.

Michelle Simmons added eight points and Brianna Vernon had seven points for Estancia (8-4).
