UCI’s Drake to serve on NCAA Board of Directors
UC Irvine Chancellor Michael Drake has been chosen to serve on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors.
Effective immediately, the position places Drake on a panel of 18 presidents and chancellors representing their respective conferences. It’s responsible for establishing and directing division policy.
Drake, who replaces former UC Riverside chancellor Timothy White, is the Big West Conference representative.
Drake became chancellor at UCI in 2005. Over the past six years, UCI has consistently finished in the top five in the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy competition, which recognizes postseason achievement among the nation’s 95 Division I non-football schools. UCI was second the last two years and was first in 2007.
