College Roundup: Concordia women’s volleyball team wins first NAIA title

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sophomore opposite Jessica Israel had 17 kills and hit .500 to lead Concordia to its first NAIA championship with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19 title-match triumph over the Missouri-based runners-up.
Junior libero Kora Vincitorio had 19 digs, junior setter Elizabeth Younglove had 28 assists and sophomore setter Jenee Henderson had 21 assists to help the Eagles complete a 38-0 season.
Second-year Concordia coach Dan Fisher was named the all-tournament coach, while Israel, junior outside hitter Madison Ekis and senior outside hitter Fei Gao represented the Eagles on the all-tournament team. Concordia, the No. 1 seed, lost in the NAIA title match in 2011, 2008 and 2004.

UC Irvine 61, Seattle 60 (OT)
SEATTLE — Junior guard Kelly Meggs made a three-pointer with 1:02 left in overtime to lift the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Saturday.
Meggs played at nearby Bellevue High and her father, Lindsay Meggs, is the baseball coach at the University of Washington. She made her return to the Northwest triumphant by converting five of nine field-goal attempts, including two three-pointers, to finish with 12 points.
Camille Buckley (16 points), Jasmine Bernard (12) and Cheyenne Cathey (11) also helped lead the way for UCI (2-5), in a game that featured 68 turnovers, 35 by the Anteaters.
It’s the first road win for UCI since a Dec. 13, 2010 victory at Seattle.
Bernard had a team-best seven rebounds and added three assists, but also topped UCI with eight turnovers.
Buckley, who was seven for 10 from the floor, had a career-high five steals and chipped in six rebounds.
Seattle’s Sylvia Shephard had 17 points, nine assists, 11 turnovers and seven steals for the Redhawks (2-4).
UCI plays host to Idaho on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
