SANTA ANA — Robert Bullon scored two goals and True Tamplin had one goal and one assist for the Sailors in their season opener Friday.

Jose Garfias also scored, while David Muñoz and Alan Alcantara contributed one assist each.

Goalies Osiel Porcayo (two saves in first half) and Victor Negrete (two saves in second half) combined for the shutout.

Newport Harbor (1-0) plays at Downey Monday at 4:45 p.m. and then has its home opener Wednesday at 5 p.m. against rival Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay.

Estancia 1, Northwood 0

COSTA MESA — Senior Ruben Gomez goal scored in the 60th minute off an assist from George Mendoza in the nonleague game at Jim Scott Stadium Friday.

The Eagles (1-0-1) outshot Northwood, 10-3. Senior captain Christian Montillo and sophomore and Christian Monroy stood out on defense.

Goalie Enriquez Salazar made eight saves and Luigi Gonzalez made two saves in the final 20 minutes for Estancia, which plays host to Corona del Mar Monday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 2, Westminster 0

WESTMINSTER — Kekai Whitford and Rachel Cramer combined for a shutout on the pitch Friday in Sage Hill’s Westminster Tournament opener.

Whitford and Cramer had two and three saves in the game, respectively, with Whitford also helping set up the Lightning’s first goal of the day. She sent a ball out to Allie Mowrey, who flicked it to Meg Crade, who found herself in a one-on-one with the goalie before burying the first goal of the game.

Erika Lynn-Green gave Sage Hill (3-0) a two-goal cushion when she knocked in a cross from Tiffany Taylor.

Battle by the Bay Tournament

CORONA DEL MAR — Newport Harbor went 3-0 and won its pool during the first day of the 12-team tourney at Corona del Mar High Friday.

The Sailors beat Estancia, 69-6, Cypress, 63-12, and University, 54-24.

Junior Ryan Taormina, a 145-pounder, went 3-0 with three pins.

Newport Harbor will have a first-round bye in bracket action Saturday. The Sailors will face the winner of the match between Knight of Palmdale and Newport Harbor’s B team.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 22, San Juan Hills 3

GARDEN GROVE — Eileen Umansky scored eight goals for the Eagles in the consolation game of the Santa Ana Valley tournament Friday at Garden Grove High.

Nikkie Blinn scored five goals and Danielle Ridge had four goals, while Valery Medina and Abby Garcia added two goals each for Estancia (2-3).

Goalie Alexis Paul made four saves for the Eagles, who will play in another Santa Ana Valley tournament consolation game Saturday at Magnolia.
