CdM’s Larson headed to Minnesota
Corona del Mar High senior Garrett Larson has signed a national letter of intent to swim for the University of Minnesota.
Larson finished third in the 200 individual medley and fourth in the 100 breaststroke last spring at the CIF Southern Section Division I finals. His personal-best times helped the Sea Kings to a third-place finish.
Larson, who swam in the junior nationals in August at Woollett Aquatics Center, finished 22nd in the 200 IM. He has been swimming for the Irvine Aquazots since he was 7.
He also took recruiting trips to USC, the University of Michigan and UC San Diego. At Minnesota, he plans to major in biomedical engineering.
Larson will be swimming in the Big Ten along with his older sister, Kelsey, who swims for the University of Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will be leaving the Big 12 next year for the Big Ten.
As far as the upcoming high school season, Larson said he expects the Sea Kings to again compete for a CIF title this year.
“I’m pretty excited,” he said. “I think we have a shot again. We have some good freshmen coming in, and freshmen from last year stepping it up.”
