Orange Empire Conference Championships
MISSION VIEJO — For the 15th straight season, the Orange Coast College women’s cross country team won the title Thursday at Oso Viejo Park.
Sparked by a 1-2 finish by OCC teammates Sara Toberty and Andrea Gayton-Jacob, the Pirates dominated the field en route to 24 points.
Riverside was second with 71 points, while Fullerton (80) placed third.
Toberty finished the 5K course with a winning time of 18 minutes, 33.2 seconds, while Gayton-Jacob took runner-up at 18:52.4.
On the men’s side, it was a 1-2 dogfight between the Pirates and the Riverside Tigers, with the Tigers edging out Coast, 24-31. Fullerton (80) placed third.
Much like the team battle, it was a race to the finish line as OCC’s Hugo Gutierrez and Riverside’s Nazanet Woldai each finished the four-mile course with a time of 21:18.3, but it was determined that Gutierrez edged out Woldai to win the OEC title.

IRVINE — Tara Seymour had a goal and an assist for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference match Friday.
Taryn Bales, Ayla Medina and Megan Hughes scored for OCC (10-4-3, 9-3-1). Emily Mizrahi, Kayla Alban and Kallie Ryker had an assist each.

Irvine Valley def. Orange Coast
IRVINE — Katie Bergen hd 14 kills to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conferene match Friday.
The Lasers, ranked No. 18 in the state, won, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-16.
Aimee Melone had seven kills, Maddie Baird had 19 digs, Kayla Peralta added 13 digs and Kimya Jafroudi had 38 assists for OCC (10-5, 5-4 in conference).
UC Davis def. UC Irvine
IRVINE — Kari Pestolesi and Shannon Fleming led the Anteaters with eight kills each in the Big West Conference match.
UC Davis won, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22.
Kristin Winkler led UCI (5-18, 1-9 in conference) with 18 digs.
