High School Roundup: CdM surges past Irvine

CORONA DEL MAR — Sophomores Ally McCormick and Brynne Wong each won two individual events for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday at CdM.
McCormick won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 56.38 seconds for CdM (2-0 in league). She then captured the 100 free in a CIF Division I automatic time of 53.64 seconds. Wong won the 50 free in 25.52 as well as the 100 butterfly in 58.29, also a CIF automatic time.
Junior Natalie Wong won the 500 free in 5:18.67 for CdM and was also on the winning 200 medley relay team that touchded in 1:53.88 and also included Pippa Saunders, Brynne Wong and Hollace Barden.

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Matt Berry won two events in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League victory Wednesday at CdM.
Berry captured the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65 seconds and the 100 free in 47.91 for the Sea Kings (2-0 in league). Both were CIF Division I automatic times. Garrett Larson won the 200 individual medley (2:00.06), John Kim took first in the 200 free (1:45.25) and Jared Namba won the 100 back (53.22). Namba’s time was also a CIF automatic time.
Namba, Larson, Kim and Berry also teamed to win the meet-opening 200 medley relay in 1:38.36 (also a CIF automatic time), as well as the 400 free relay in 3:20.60.

SANTA ANA — The Sailors’ Carter Norris and Eli Gomez shared medalist honors after both shot even-par 36 in the nonleague match at Santa Ana Country Club Wednesday.
Marcus Kiel (38), Zach Eddy (41) and Brad Tapfer (43) also scored for Newport Harbor (6-6).

IRVINE — Jared Hoffman shot three-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors for the Lightning in the Academy League match at Strawberry Farms Golf Course Wednesday.
Ahmed Eltamami shot 40 and Tanner Tremaine carded a 44 for Sage Hill (3-1, 3-0 in league).

IRVINE — Mike Moorhead shot a one-over-par 37 to help the Sea Kings improve to 4-0 in Pacific Coast League play at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course Wednesday.
Woodbridge’s Jed Meng, who earned medalist honors with a 35, made a hole in one on the second hole.
Ryan Grable and Brian Mull each had 38s for CdM (11-1).
John Davenport (39) and Chase Wheatley (40) rounded out the top five for CdM..
The Sea Kings play University today at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine at 3 p.m.

IRVINE — Rhylie Nese recorded three goals Wednesday in a Pacific Coast League match to keep the Sea Kings undefeated.
Molly Rovzar and Sabrina Smith had three goals each for CdM (7-0, 4-0 in league).

CORONA DEL MAR — Hunter Molnar notched four goals and one assist in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League match Wednesday.
Eight players scored for CdM (5-1, 3-0 in league).
Jack Ortlieb had three goals and Casey Mix contributed two goals and three assists.
John Prickett, Donald Dalton and Dylan Salisbury led the Sea Kings’ defense.
