MORAGA — The Anteaters suffered their first loss of the season after the nonconference game Friday.
Starter Matt Summers pitched six innings and struck out six while holding Saint Mary’s (3-5) to a run on five hits.
UCI (7-1) had four hits, as Mark Anderson shut out the Anteaters with six strikeouts and one walk.
The teams continue the series today at 1 p.m.

SAN MARCOS — Johl Awerkamp had a team-high 13 kills in the Pirates’ 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20 Pacific Coast Conference victory Friday night at Palmoar.
Chris Pratt had 12 kills for OCC (7-1, 2-0 in conference) and Brett Anderson dished out 44 assists.
The Pirates play host to Grossmont (also 2-0 in conference) in a battle for first place Wednesday night at 6.

IRVINE — Senior outside hitter Cory Yoder led the No. 7-ranked Anteaters with 16 kills after the No. 3 Cardinal won, 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday.
Carson Clark had 15 kills, Jordan DuFault added 11 kills and Dan McDonnell finished with 10 kills for UCI (10-9, 7-6 in the MPSF). Anthony Spittle had 49 assists.
Gus Ellis, a Corona del Mar High product, had five kills for Stanford (13-4, 10-4).

SANTA BARBARA — Sam Gould (No. 1 singles player), Fabian Matthews (No. 2) and Ryan Cheung (No. 6) won in singles for the Anteaters in the Big West Conference match Friday.
The Anteaters (8-4, 1-0 in conference) swept in doubles.
