College Roundup: Hellyer tosses no-hitter

COSTA MESA — Freshman Rachael Hellyer tossed a six-inning no-hitter in Game 2 to key a sweep for host Vanguard University over Patten on Friday.
Hellyer strick out seven and walked one in an 8-0 Vanguard victory.
Vanguard won the first game, 5-3.
Amanda Young went four for four in two games, while Kari Bergerson, Angela St. Croix, Jennifer Nelson and Adriana Venezia had three hits apiece in the two games for the Lions (6-5).
Patten is 3-3.

BASEBALL
Vanguard 7, Azusa Pacific 6
COSTA MESA — The host Lions rallied from a 6-3 deficit with three in the seventh inning and one in the eighth in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.
Jacob Dominguez went four for five, Kyle Hardman was three for three with two runs batted in and Tyson Leighton was two for two with two RBIs for the winners.
Mario Romero also had two RBIs for Vanguard (7-7, 3-1 in conference).
Three Vanguard relievers combined to allow one hit and no earned runs in 3 2/3 innings as Mike Leal earned the win and Joey Vega posted the save.
APU is 8-7, 1-3.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Moorpark def. Orange Coast
MOORPARK – Sophomore setter James Anderson recorded 35 assists for the Pirates, but Moorpark won the nonconference match, 19-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-21, on Friday.
Jeff Patton and McKay Smith each had 11 kills for Orange Coast (5-1).
Danny Baker contributed 12 digs.
