Briefs: The VIC is coming

Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach will be the site where some of the top riders both locally and around the world gather later this month for the 2015 World Championships of Skimboarding. The 39th edition of The VIC will take place Aug. 29-30.

Competitors vying for past titles have come from Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Philippines, Chile and Spain, and this year’s contest is expected to draw another batch of top contenders.

The VIC is the longest-running contest in skimboarding.

Registration is currently open and ends at midnight on Aug. 26. Competition will be held in 12 divisions: Pro Men, Pro Women, Amateur Women, Amateur Men (8-under), Amateur Men (9-11), Amateur Men (ages 12-14), Amateur Men (ages 15-17), Amateur Men (ages 18-21), Amateur Men (ages 22-24), Amateur Men (ages 25-29), Amateur Men (ages 30-39), and Amateur Men (40-and-over).

Lewis solid

Michael Lewis of Laguna Beach kept his string of top-five finishes intact by earning a fifth-place standing in the No. 41 EFFORT Racing/Curb-Agajanian Porsche 911 GT3 R in the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Lewis qualified his No. 41 Saturday with the fourth fastest time of the session at 1:20.319, matching he best qualifying time of the race season. In Race 1 of Round 14 of the PWC, he finished fifth among 36 competitors and earned his third consecutive fifth-place finish in a Round 14 PWC race.

Lewis next will next compete in Rounds 16 and 17 of the Pirelli World Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. Aug. 21-23.
