Baseball camp opens Tuesday

Tuesday is the opening day of a Youth Baseball Camp for incoming freshmen at Laguna Beach High.

The camp runs daily from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school’s baseball field. Camp instruction runs through July 23.

USA poloists at Pan Am Games

The USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team, which includes Makenzie Fischer of Laguna Beach, begins play Tuesday at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Fischer is one of 13 players on the Team USA roster. The USA Women start the tournament competing in Group A with Mexico, Cuba, and Argentina. The team opens Tuesday against Mexico, plays Cuba Wednesday and completes pool play with a July 11 game against Argentina.

Strong showings for Laguna’s Lewis

Michael Lewis of Laguna Beach turned in another strong result with a pair of second-place finishes last weekend at Road America in the Pirelli World Challenge (4.048-mile road course) at Elkhart Lake, Wisc.

Lewis and the EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R next will participate in Rounds 14 and 15 of the Pirelli World Challenge at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 31-Aug. 2.

The VIC set for August in Laguna

Some of the top riders both locally and across the globe will be in Laguna Beach this summer for the 2015 World Championships of Skimboarding. The 39th edition of The VIC will take place Aug. 29-30 at Aliso Beach.

Past competitions have drawn riders from such countries as Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, The Philippines, Chile and Spain. The VIC is the longest-running contest in skimboarding.

U.S. Open of Surfing dates set

The 2015 Vans U.S. Open of Surfing is July 25-Aug. 2 at the Huntington Beach Pier.

The top surfers in the world will compete for one of the sport’s largest prize purses in the world’s largest surf competition. The event also includes a lifestyle festival atmosphere that runs the duration of the Open.
