Youth Scene: Laguna Beach Little League All-Stars continue tournament play

The All-Star season for Laguna Beach Little League is getting into full swing this week.

The Laguna Intermediate (11-12 year-olds) All-Star team started tourney play last Saturday and opened with a victory. The other two Laguna teams, the 9-10-year-old and 8-9-year-old All-Star teams open District 55 All-Star Tournament play the weekend of June 27-28.

The Laguna Intermediate All-Stars posted a 12-6 victory over Rancho Niguel, which two weeks ago won the district’s Tournament of Champions.

Paxton Burzell, Gavin Trevino and Caden Capobianco each hit home runs, and Burzell, Trevino and Jack Payne each pitched at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo.

Laguna, which suffered an 8-5 loss Tuesday to Newport Beach, played an elimination game Wednesday against Northwood. The score wasn’t available at press time.

The double-elimination Intermediate division tournament continues Friday, Saturday and Monday, and, if needed, Tuesday.

The Laguna Beach 9/10 All-Star Team begins the district tournament against Lake Forest at 1 p.m. June 28 at Crown Valley Elementary School in Laguna Niguel.

The double-elimination tournament runs through July 12.

The Laguna Beach 8/9 All-Star Team starts its drive toward a district title when it launches the Super Stars tournament at 10 a.m. June 27 against Lake Forest (No. 2) at 10 a.m. at Las Lomas Park in Irvine.

The double-elimination tournament ends July 11.
