USA women’s team wins gold
The USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team won gold at the 2015 FINA World League Super Final with an 8-7 victory over Australia Sunday at Shanghai. China. The team includes Laguna Beach High’s Makenzie Fischer who scored once in the title game.
The win gave Team USA it’s ninth Super Final crown. The squad went undefeated at the tournament posting wins over Australia, Brazil (16-3), Canada (9-3), Russia (17-6) and twice defeated the Netherlands (8-3, 8-5).
Fischer scored three goals against Brazil in the tourney opener for the U.S., twice against the Netherlands in the semifinals and once when the teams met in pool play, twice against Canada, and once against Russia.
Team USA, which previously won the gold June 6 at the 2015 Kunshan Cup at Kunshan, China, is ranked No. 1 in the FINA world rankings.

Freshmen baseball camp at Laguna
A Youth Baseball Camp for incoming freshmen at Laguna Beach High will run July 7-23 at the school’s baseball field. The camp will run daily from 5 to 7 p.m.

Skimboarding event planned
Some of the top riders both locally and across the globe will be in Laguna Beach this summer for the 2015 World Championships of Skimboarding. The 39th edition of “The VIC” will take place Aug. 29-30 at Aliso Beach.
Past competitions have drawn riders from such countries as Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, The Philippines, Chile and Spain. The VIC is the longest-running contest in skimboarding.

U.S. Open of Surfing dates set
The 2015 Vans U.S. Open of Surfing is July 25-Aug. 2 at the Huntington Beach Pier.
The top surfers in the world will compete for one of the sport’s largest prize purses in the world’s largest surf competition. The event also includes a lifestyle festival atmosphere that runs the duration of the Open.
