Team USA women win Kunshan Cup
The USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team, which included Laguna Beach High senior Makenzie Fischer, won the gold medal Saturday at the 2015 Kunshan Cup at Kunshan, China.
Team USA won the title by defeating the Netherlands, 18-9, in the tournament final Saturday. The Stanford-bound Fischer and teammate Maggie Steffens (Danville/Stanford) both scored a game-high three goals in the title match as the U.S. completed the event with a 4-0 record.
Fischer also was named to the Team USA roster for the FINA World League Super Final, which started Tuesday in Shanghai.
She scored a game-best three goals in a 16-3 opening win over Brazil. She scored twice Wednesday in a 9-3 win over Canada. Both victories came in group play.
The Super Final tournament runs through Sunday.
The USA Water Polo Men’s Senior Team, which includes Luca Cupido of Newport Harbor High and Bret Bonanni (Mater Dei High/Stanford) of Huntington Beach, defeated the Serbian National Team, 14-13, Tuesday at Chicago, Ill.
Cupido scored the winning goal as time expired, and also netted the game-winning goal with two seconds left in the fourth quarter Sunday to lift the U.S. to an 11-10 win at El Toro High.
Team USA swept the four-match series from Serbia. Bonanni scored four goals in the series opener June 2 at UC San Diego, the 12-10 win by the U.S. its first over a Serbian team since the 2008 Olympic Games. Bonanni also scored twice and Cupido once June 4 in a 9-5 win at the Riverside Aquatics Complex.

Laguna’s Lewis seventh in Detroit
Michael Lewis of Laguna Beach earned another top-seven finish with his seventh-place standing in Round 10 of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) series portion of the Detroit Grand Prix May 30. Lewis took part in two practice sessions May 29, and competed in Round 10 May 30.
Round 11 of the Pirelli World Challenge will be part of the DeVilBiss Elkhart Lake Grand Prix, which also features Rounds 12 and 13, at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc., June 26-28.

Freshmen baseball camp at Laguna
A Youth Baseball Camp for incoming freshmen at Laguna Beach High is scheduled July 7-23 at the school’s baseball field. The camp will run daily from 5 to 7 p.m.
