Youth Scene: LBLL Breakers use teamwork for 12-7 win
The Laguna Beach Little League Breakers defeated the Laguna Hills Brewers, 12-7, Saturday in a Juniors 60/90 division game at Alta Laguna Park in Laguna Beach.
The Breakers dominated the game by holding the Brewers to three runs until the final inning. All 11 Breakers contributed to the win through consistent hitting and playing aggressive defense.
James Loughlin started on the mound for the Breakers and threw two, solid innings and on offense, hit a single to left field that scored two runs. Daniel Kimball held the Brewers in-check during the next three innings striking out six. Kimball also had two, key singles on offense. Caleb Hardy, who pitched a solid, final inning, had three hits on offense.
Nolan Guidry’s RBI single brought in the first run for the Breakers. Zack Bonnin doubled to bring in two more runs. Blake Perduk and Kyle Juergens each had two hits and drove in runs.
Adam Kerfoot’s speed was crucial in center field where he made several plays. Kerfoot also got on base three times. Sam Tyrrell drove in runs and got on base three times, Cade St.Clair scored a run and played solid defense at second base, and catcher Cal Parker played a solid game behind the plate and singled in the final inning.

Intermediate Division
Rotary 8, Newport Beach Trider Real Estate 6: Rotary ended the regular season with an epic, 10-inning win in dramatic fashion with Nolan Naess’ two-run walk-off home run.
Defense and pitching was the key to the game for both sides. Jack Payne led Rotary, pitching six innings with 12 strikeouts. Sam Schineller was solid with three innings pitched, and Naess added an inning and struck out two. Cooper Noriega caught all 10 innings and was spectacular.
Key hits for Rotary came from Maddox de Bretteville who had two hits including a clutch hit during Rotary’s ninth-inning comeback, Payne (two hits), Noriega (three hits), Sol McDermott, and Brandon Lindsay. Steven Gallegos was hit by a pitch to get on first base in the bottom of the 10th, setting the stage for Naess who connected on the game-winning, walk-off two-run home run.
Rotary concluded the regular season with an 11-5 overall record (8-3 league).

AAA Division
Southland Eye Care 5, DLD Insurance 2: In this “do or die” playoff game in the double-elimination tournament, Southland Eye Care (10-6-2) prevailed over DLD Insurance (5-12-1) in a defensive battle Wednesday at Riddle Field.
Luke Machin (three innings pitch, one run, four hits, one walk, four strikeouts) and Luke Anderton (three innings, one run, two hits, three walks, three strikeouts) were outstanding on the mound for Southland and were supported by stellar defense including tremendous plays by right-fielder Matthew Carpino, catcher Noah Neufeld and shortstop Cade Anderton. Machin and Anderton also made big plays when not pitching, Machin at shortstop and Anderton at second base.
Due to the strong pitching of Shea Blanchard (3 2/3 innings two runs, three hits, four walks, four strikeouts) and solid defense behind him, DLD was up, 1-0, heading into the fourth inning. Southland scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead and never looked back, taking a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. DLD kept fighting, scored one in the sixth and had the tying run at the plate when Anderton struck out the final batter to close the game.
Southland’s offensive attack was a true team effort, with everyone contributing, and Carpino (double, walk, run), Sam Burchi (three for three, double), Zade Harrison (double, RBI), Erik Olsen (single, two walks, two runs, RBI), and Lucas McKibben (single, walk, RBI, run), leading the way.
For DLD, Nick Bonn (2 1/3 innings, three runs, six hits, two walks, four strikeouts) was strong on the mound and at the plate (single, walk, run). The DLD attack was further led by Blanchard (two for three, run), Camden Dowers (single), and Aidan Malm (two for three).

Payoff.com 7 Southland Eye Care 6: Payoff (8-8-1) won this back-and-forth game last Saturday at Riddle Field with a two-out, two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Payoff received solid pitching efforts from Ben Reimers (3 1/3 innings, two runs, six hits, one walk, four strikeouts), Ben Neufeld (1 2/3 innings, two runs, four hits, one walk) and Brandon Britt (one inning, two runs, three hits, two strikeouts). Payoff’s offensive attack was led by Reimers (hit, run), Neufeld (double, RBI, run), Britt (double, walk, RBI, two runs), Ryan Strickland (two for three, run), Ryan Moellenhoff (two for two, two RBIs, run), Mattias Powell (single, RBI), Ethan Saunders (single), and Devon Connelly (single).
Southland was led on the mound by Luke Anderton (three innings, four runs, seven hits, one walk, four strikeouts) and Cade Anderton (2 2/3 innings, three runs, four hits, one walk, three strikeouts). Noah Neufeld (two for four, RBI), Max Burchi (three for three, run), Erik Olsen (single, RBI), Cade Anderton (single), Lucas McKibben (two for three, two runs), Sam Burchi (hit, walk, RBI, run), Matthew Carpino (single, two RBIs, run), and Zade Harrison (two for three, RBI) led Southland’s efforts on offense.
