Beach Volleyball: Chetwood, Marinos take Laguna Open

The final match of the 39th annual Women’s Laguna Open Saturday was won in a hard-fought battle by the team of Meg Chetwood and Tiffany Marinos.

Chetwood, of San Diego, and Marinos (San Marcos), took the title and top prize of $1,000 by defeating Elisa Rodriguez and Lia Jackson, two members of the Costa Rica Women’s National Team who train in Manhattan Beach. Rodriguez and Jackson earned $500 for their second-place finish.

The teams of Julie Consani (Newport Beach)/Laurel Weaver (Winnetka) and Camie Manwill (Salt Lake City, Utah)/Katherine Wanket (Dove Canyon), finished equal-third place.

A deep playing field of 25 teams featured 26 competitors with an AAA rating (highest) and 14 players with an AA rating.
