High School Roundup: Laguna boys sweep in doubles
The Laguna Beach boys’ tennis team moved to 2-0 in the first week of its 2015 season by defeating visiting San Juan Hills, 11-7, in a nonleague match Tuesday.
A 9-0 sweep in doubles play led to the victory. At No. 1 doubles, Ryan Gee/Hayden Seitz won by scores of 6-2, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Sterling Dudley Bowen/Zack Washer won, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 3, Ethan Gee/Tristan Krogius won, 6-1, 7-5, 6-1.
The Breakers also picked up two points in singles play with one each from No. 1 Charles Keller and No. 3 Stuart Webb.
Laguna started its season Feb. 26 and took a 14-4 nonleague match from host El Toro. Keller (6-3, 6-0, 6-0) and Webb (6-0, 7-5, 6-2) swept and Dudley-Bowen (3-6, 6-0, 6-0) won two of three in singles action. The teams of Ryan Gee/Seitz (6-1, 6-0, 6-3) and Ethan Gee/Tristan Krogius (6-1, 7-5, 6-1) swept in doubles.
Laguna hosted Newport Harbor Thursday. The score wasn’t available at press time.
The Breakers host two 3 p.m. nonleague matches next week starting with a Tuesday match against JSerra. They play Trabuco Hills Thursday.

Boys’ Volleyball
The Breakers, who opened the 2015 season with the top ranking in CIF Southern Section Division 2, launched their campaign Tuesday and turned back host Newport Harbor, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 15-10.
Four Breakers posted double digits in kills: Dane Olson (19), Pete Obradovich (15), Tyler Alter (13) and Nick Rieckhoff (10). Olson also had nine digs, Cole Paxson 14 digs, Isaac Wulff 14 digs and 53 set assists, and Adam Lythgoe had seven digs.
Laguna’s next match is Tuesday at San Clemente which is ranked fourth in the preseason Division 1 poll. The Breakers play their home opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Santa Margarita, the sixth-ranked team in Division 1.
