Volleyball classes offered by Laguna Beach High

Junior Breakers Volleyball Clinics, a series of youth volleyball classes presented by Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball Coach Scott Panaro, start Oct. 3 at the North Gym on the Laguna Beach campus.

The clinics are designed for boys ages 14 and younger and of all skill levels.

Clinic dates and costs are: Oct. 3-28 (eight classes, $200); Nov. 4-18 (five classes $125); Nov. 25-Dec. 19 (eight classes, $200); Oct. 3-Dec. 19 (21 classes, $450); Oct. 3-Dec. 16 (10-11classes, one per week, $275).

Pavlik, Kropp look to keep momentum going

Whitney Pavlik of Laguna Beach and Jenny Kropp will compete this weekend at the National Championships — the seventh and final event of the 2012 Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series — at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Tournament qualifiers are Friday and the tournament’s main draw is Saturday. Both the women’s and men’s semifinals and finals are Sunday.

Pavlik and Kropp are coming off the women’s division title of the Manhattan Beach Open on Aug. 26 and have won five of the first six tournaments in the series.

Turkey Trot registration now open

Registration is open to Laguna Beach residents for the 35th annual Dana Point Turkey Trot. The Nov. 22 event includes a 5K, 10K, Kids’ Gobble Wobble, a two-day health and fitness expo, and finish line festival.
