Breakers still No. 1 in CIF poll

The Laguna Beach High boys’ water polo team continues to hold down the top ranking in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division 3 boys’ water polo poll. The Breakers are one of three Laguna Beach athletic teams to earn a top-10 spot in the polls.

Laguna leads a Division 3 poll that includes, in order, Damien, Palos Verdes, Aliso Niguel, Capistrano Valley, La Canada, Mira Costa, Peninsula, South Pasadena and Tesoro.

In girls’ volleyball, Laguna is ranked third in Division 2-AA. Defending champion Marymount heads the rankings and is followed by Corona del Mar. Spots four-through-10 belong to Vista Murrieta, Valencia/Valencia, Murrieta Valley, Notre Dame Academy, El Dorado, Saugus and Canyon/Anaheim.

Laguna’s boys’ cross-country team is ranked fourth in Division 4. The top spot belongs to Don Bosco Tech, with Salesian at No. 2 and JSerra is third. Nordhoff is fifth and is followed by Harvard/Westlake, Crespi, Fillmore, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks and Paraclete.

Hoops registration is now open

In-house registration is under way for the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach Boys’ Basketball League at the club’s main branch, 1085 Laguna Canyon Rd.

Player evaluations will take place between Oct. 3-14 and practices start Oct. 31. The season officially starts Dec. 6. All participants must be members of the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Club membership for youth ages 6-18 is $150 per year. The Boys & Girls Club Basketball League fee is $100 per player and includes a uniform. A $25 late fee will apply to registrations received after Sept. 30. Annual League sponsorship opportunities are available for $500 and include a personalized banner hung in the club’s gymnasium. Cardio tennis offered

Adult Cardio Tennis is under way at the Laguna Beach High tennis courts. The one-hour cardio sessions are from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Monday and focuses on drills and games.
