Hamilton wins crown
Teague Hamilton of Laguna Beach won his first 18-and-under boys’ tennis tournament Monday in Upland. Hamilton, who will enter his junior year at Laguna Beach High next month, was unseeded after the initial rounds of the tournament. He went on to sweep to wins over the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 seeds. He defeated top-seed Tomas E. Aranguiz (6-1, 6-1) in the semifinals.
In late-July, Hamilton and Taylor Nederlander, who also will be a junior at Laguna Beach, were selected by the Southern California Tennis Assn. and represented the Southern California Section at the United States Tennis Assn. Intermountain Zone Team Championships on July 27-31 in Salt Lake City.
Hamilton was part of the Vertigo team that went 4-0 and took first place. Nederlander’s team, High Rustler, also went 4-0 and finished in second place in the 12-team tournament. Hamilton and Nederlander played singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches against top-ranked players from Southern and Northern California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Hawaii, Utah, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming.

Paxson and Guinasso continue winning ways
Cole Paxson of Laguna Beach and his cousin, Grant Guinasso of Huntington Beach, continued on their roll in California Beach Volleyball Assn. boys’ Under-12 play. The pair placed third July 23 at the Manhattan Beach Pier Open and then placed second July 28 at the Huntington State Beach Open. Paxson and Guinasso have qualified to play at the Cal Cup Youth Championships on Sept. 4 at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
