High School Roundup: Hamilton advances to Seal Beach

Teague Hamilton of Laguna Beach High won his first two singles matches at the CIF Southern Section Boys’ Individual Tennis Sectionals to move on in postseason competition.

Hamilton, a senior, received a first-round bye in the tournament, which started May 23 at Corona del Mar High. The Orange Coast League singles champion scored a 6-1, 6-1 win in his opener against Max Pham of Anaheim Fairmont Prep. Hamilton then defeated Max Canilla of Marina, the No. 2 singles player from the Sunset League, 6-1, 6-2.

The two wins earned Hamilton an automatic bye into the tournament’s round of 16, which start at 11 a.m. Friday at Seal Beach Tennis Center in Seal Beach.

Laguna’s Morgan Lebby also competed in the sectionals singles tournament. The senior, the No. 2 singles player from the Orange Coast League, also received a first-round bye. Lebby was eliminated from title contention following a 6-1, 6-2 loss in the second round to Garrett Vincent of Aliso Niguel, the singles champion from the Sea View League.
