Pair of Breakers turn in strong finishes

Two Laguna Beach High athletes, Natasha Strickland and Tyler Nichols, earned top finishes Saturday at the CIF Southern Section Division 4 Track and Field finals at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Strickland had a fifth-place finish in the girls’ 3,200 meters. The junior finished with a time of 11 minutes 17.20 seconds. Chadwick senior Jaye Buchbinder won the race in 10:48.17.

Nichols, a sophomore, finished in seventh place in the boys’ 800 meters with a time of 2:00.30. Connor Reck, a senior at Santa Ynez, won the event in 1:53.84.

The CIF Track and Field Masters Meet is Friday at Cerritos College.

Swimming

Laguna’s Billy Wild came up with a 10th-place finish at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet on May 17 at the William Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine. Wild, a junior, finished the event in 52.78 seconds for the Division 3 Breakers. David Armstrong, a senior at Division 1 Thousand Oaks, won the race in 48.90. Wild was the highest-finishing Division 3 swimmer in the event.
