Hobie gets job done against Sportsworld
Hobie collected its 11th win of the season by defeating Sportsworld, 5-1, Wednesday in a Laguna Beach Little League Majors Division game at Riddle Field.
Jack Wills started the game for Hobie and allowed one hit and no runs in 2 2/3 innings. Jack Loechner threw the next 2 1/3 innings and gave up a run and two hits. Lance Stewart closed out the sixth and didn’t allow a hit and was backed by two solid defensive plays by Josh McManus at second base.
Christian Herry started the game for Sportsworld and pitched well through three innings. In the Hobie half of the fourth, Wills doubled, McManus tripled to score Wills and Loechner doubled in McManus.
After Herry was replaced by Blake Burzell, Loechner stole third base and scored on a wild throw to put the score at 3-1. Stewart kept the rally going with a single to right field. Kyle McCombs then struck out but the third strike was dropped, McCombs took off for first and the throw to first was high and traveled into corner in right field. Both Stewart and McCombs were able to score to make it 5-1.
The victory put Hobie at 11-2-1 overall.

AAA Division
American Legion wins two: American Legion continued its last-season surge in Laguna Beach Little League AAA Division action by winning games against UPS Store and Zero Trash.
Legion ran its win streak to three Tuesday by scoring an 8-5 win over UPS Store. After UPS Store had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a double by Lance Detweiler and a sacrifice fly by Daniel Kimball, Legion answered with RBI doubles by Aryton Garcia and Jeremy Hayes to take a 3-2 lead. The score was tied at 3 in the third after a Jaden Rea line drive knocked in Kimball for UPS.
Hayes provided outstanding middle relief by throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. A two-run double by Hayden Myers, bunt single by Will Keary and double by Charlie Pillsbury broke the game open for Legion in the bottom of the fifth.
On April 27, Legion scored a 6-3 win over Zero Trash. Starter George Williams of Zero Trash held Legion in check the first two innings. In the third, consecutive hits by Jeremy Hayes, Keary and Zach Falkowkski loaded the bases for Legion. Then, Legion’s one-two punch of Jett Rocha and Pillsbury, delivered back-to-back doubles to clear the bases for a four-run lead.
A two-run double by Cole Hunt in the fifth provided the crucial insurance runs for Legion.
UPS Store 5, Morgan Stanley 3: UPS Store scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and pulled out a victory over Morgan Stanley. Dylan Brashier singled, Josh Meiswinkel and Lance Detweiler hit doubles and Daniel Kimball tripled, and all four players scored in the sixth to put UPS ahead.
Zach Bonnin had an RBI, Scotty Plowden scored twice and Christian Holm scored once for Morgan Stanley.

Junior Division
Laguna Beach 21, Laguna Hills 13: McKenna Porsche of Laguna Beach motored past the Laguna Hills Angels in a high-scoring, interleague game that lasted 3 1/2 hours Saturday at Alta Laguna Park.
Laguna Beach took an early lead with Carter Monacell, Ian Detweiler and Henry Schineller all scoring in the first inning. McKenna Porsche starting pitcher Bayley Thomas struck out two but gave up a run in the first. In the third inning, Sean Conley, Jack Dickinson, Matthew Kerfoot, Jack Smith and Aaron Sweet all scored to increase the lead to 8-1, but Laguna Hills responded with four runs to close to within 8-5.
McKenna Porsche added 10 more runs in the fifth to pull away.
